Free Spirit Hi-‘S’ Special Power Float Rod 15ft (3-Piece)

The original Hi-‘S’ Special Power Floats became the go-to float rod for targeting powerful specimens like Barbel, Tench and Chub. The 15ft Special Power Float was much sought after for the Trent when trotting for double figure barbel due to its ability to control these hard fighting fish. After a period of sporadic supply, Free Spirit are happy to say these rods are now available with the same powerful blanks and a bit of a make-over to bring them up to date. Additionally, there are two more models available: the 14ft three-piece Special Power and the 17ft four piece.

Using Japanese 40t Ultra Low Resin Carbon like the Hi-‘S’ Waggler rods, these float rods are extremely light to hold so are a joy to use all day. The carbon doesn’t soften perceptibly so will stay strong for many, many years with no change in action.

The ultra slim blanks are designed with specialist fishing in mind, hence the 12ft and 13ft models being made in two pieces and the 15ft in three pieces. This makes for better actions to control large fish in currents or under the rod top since we believe the action flows better through the blank and the power transmission is smoother.

Built with ‘A’ grade full rear cork handles and an EVA butt grip, a Fuji lock down seat and front screw down EVA and furnished with a combination of double and single leg ‘S’-Lite high stand-off guides to keep the line from ‘sticking’ to the blank when trotting. Free Spirit have removed the stainless steel for these revised builds to further reduce the weight of the rod by between 12% to nearly 20% over the previous design.

The 15ft model was designed with flowing water in mind. Being very light for its 15ft length, it can be held for long periods when trotting for species like Chub, Barbel and Grayling whilst wading or standing in the water. The additional length gives greater control when mending the line whilst trotting the stick or for casting longer distances with a waggler, or when slider float fishing.
